Google IO Gemini 1.5 Flash is a new addition to Google's model family, optimized for speed and efficiency at scale. Although it is lighter than the 1.5 Pro, it still supports multimodal reasoning across extensive datasets and features a groundbreaking context window of one million tokens.

"1.5 Flash excels in summarization, chat applications, image and video captioning, data extraction from lengthy documents and tables, and more," explained Demis Hassabis, CEO of Google DeepMind. "This is due to its training through 'distillation,' a process where the essential knowledge and skills from a larger model are transferred to a smaller, more efficient one."
